State of the Lakes will be featured at Great Lakes Public Forum

Registration is open for the Great Lakes Public Forum, which is scheduled for October 3-6 at the Allstream Centre in Toronto, ON. The Forum, which occurs every three years, provides an opportunity for the United States and Canada to present a scientific and technical review of Great Lakes water quality and to propose priorities for science and action related to the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes. A key feature of the forum is that the IJC will discuss and receive public comment on the parties’ State of the Lakes report. CGLI President Kathryn Buckner has been asked to participate in the Forum by providing an industry perspective on a panel highlighting the importance of the Great Lakes to various sectors of the Great Lakes community. Registration information and a draft agenda are available at https://binational.net/engagement-participation/forum/.

The 2016 annual meeting of the Great Lakes Commission will follow the Great Lakes Public Forum, and will be held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto on October 6-7. This meeting provides an opportunity for the Commission to conduct its official business and for stakeholders and observers to share perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the region. This year the Commission plans to convene a panel that highlights industry’s transition to a carbon-constrained future. In addition, CGLI President Kathryn Buckner will participate on a panel that will address the role of the Great Lakes Commission and its partner organizations in promoting the Great Lakes regional economy. Registration and a draft agenda for the meeting is available at http://projects.glc.org/meeting/
